When I say “Handmade Tile,” I truly mean it. Unlike many companies who claim to make “handmade tile” but actually use hydraulic or pneumatic presses in their respective production processes, I press and glaze every tile individually and by hand.
In production, an original design is sculpted by hand, from which a plaster mold is made. Locally made clay is carefully pressed into the mold, then released out of the mold onto catchboards to dry for several days. When bone dry, the fragile "greenware" tile is bisque fired in the kiln, which vitrifies it into hard ceramic. Next the tile is hand glazed to order, with many of my colors requiring skillful "rubbing back" of the glaze just so, to bring out the intricate details... the unique character of each and every tile that makes hand-pressed tile so habit forming. Now a second kiln firing melts the glaze and further strengthens the tile.
Finally, I inspect, individually wrap, double box, and ship your made-to-order tile, hoping you'll love it as much as I do.
